Using Vitamin C and Shampoo to Fade Hair Dye

Vitamin COne week ago I dyed my hair light ash brown with Revlon Colorsilk. I expected it to fade more than it has; it’s still medium brown. I actually prefer the color it was but wanted it a touch darker. So here I am with vitamin c and Head & Shoulders on my head. I’m using this technique to fade the hair dye from my hair.

Vitamin c and shampooI get vitamin c pills from the Dollar Tree; it’s $1 for 30. Don’t get the coated kind. Typically, I use 15 and do it twice but today I just decided to use the whole bottle once. Unless you get vitamin c powder you will have to crush them up. I use the back of a spoon but I usually get a bunch of little balls that fall out of my hair. I combined it with some Head and Shoulders shampoo till it made a frothy mixture.

I applied it all to damp hair and lathered it in well. Then I used a plastic bag as a cover. I plan to leave it in for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. For some reason it’s tingling  my scalp a lot this time! It doesn’t burn it just feels like menthol or something. It must be because I used so much vitamin c or the ingredient in the shampoo.

You can see it’s a couple of shades lighter! Unfortunately, I was left with some brassiness as you can see in the second photo (maybe the lighting?). I plan on doing my own toner tomorrow, look for that ;)
